The Sun attempts to expose podcast girl as Kiss 100 retaliates

LONDON – The Sun is calling on readers to expose the hit, anonymous podcast girl dubbed 'Faceless', who has been revealing intimate details of her life on Kiss FM, as the radio station tries to put the tabloid off the scent by asking listeners to call the paper pretending to be the girl.

In this morning's The Sun, a story covering Faceless's raunchy diary, which has been described as the Bridget Jones for the iPod generation, contains a reader call-in number alongside the request "Do you know who Faceless is?"

Bam Bam, who had been airing clips of Faceless on his morning show, is notorious for his pranks and wind-ups, read some of The Sun's article on the show and begged his listeners to call the number to throw them off the scent.

"The Sun is better than the government, better than James Bond, you have to help keep this girl's identity a secret," he said.

All fans of the podcast know is that the girl, only ever referred to as "Faceless" with a boyfriend dubbed "The Body", is a student between the ages of 18 and 21 living in the capital. Even Bam Bam, who said he recruited the girl through a radio show request in 2001, insists he does not know who Faceless is.

Each week, she calls a voicemail number and leaves a message, which Bam Bam then transcribes and puts through a voice synthesiser.

If Faceless' identity is revealed it is likely it will put a stop to her no-holds barred diary, which contains controversial material including bisexual encounters, being asked to have a foursome, her dieting obsessions and trips to an STD clinic.

The weekly broadcasts, which Kiss reveal snippets of in the morning, is currently number three in Apple's iTunes chart in the UK and the US.

The podcast is similar in nature to successful online diaries and blogs such as Belle de Jour, the supposed diary of a high-class London hooker.
