Focus on ... Formula One

Marketing 15-Mar-06

The Federation Internationale de l'Automobile launched the Formula One World Drivers' Championship in 1950.

- This season 11 teams will participate at 18 circuits.

- Teams get 80%-85% of their income from sponsorship and the remainder
from TV revenue and prize money. F1 boss Bernie Ecclestone's company is

its commercial rights holder.

- Last year, an international ban on tobacco advertising was introduced
at the majority of races, causing some firms to pull out. Though
Marlboro's deal with Ferrari runs until 2011, it is unable to run
branding on its cars.
