US version of ElleGirl magazine is next to close

LONDON - Hachette Filipacchi is to cease publishing the US print edition of ElleGirl magazine, which is distributed in the UK, in favour of investing in digital media versions of ElleGirl.

After the UK version of the title was closed last autumn, Hachette increased the distribution of the US version of the magazine.

However, the changing teen market has forced Hachette to make changes across the Atlantic as well as in the UK, and the June/July issue will be the last.

Jack Kliger, US CEO of Hachette Filipacchi, said: "It is always unfortunate to have to close a magazine, but today the teen market is increasingly fragmented.

"To effectively reach these girls, we must invest in the media where they spend most of their time and where we see our greatest growth potential."

The company is redesigning ElleGirl.com and expanding its content and staff.

Last week, Hachette UK suspended publication of B from the May issue and entered into a 30-day consultation period with 20 staff.
