Google launches search engine for the business world

LONDON - Google is set to unveil new search software aimed at the business world, which will allow companies to find vital information inside their own databases.

Google will be working alongside other hi-tech firms such as software giant Oracle, Salesforce.com and Cisco Systems and is hoping to become the number one technology for hunting down documents and information within company computer systems, according to reports.

Oracle and Google's other business software partners are building new features into their software, which will make it as easy to find documents on a company database as it is finding information on the web.

Google's new version aims to allow corporate customers to create company-specific searches where employees can use the familiar search box to find information such as contacts or calendars, employee benefits, sales leads or purchase orders.

The new search facility will have added security through working more closely with business software firms.

The move is the latest upgrade to Google's search offering as the firm attempts to develop other revenues besides advertising.

The move sees it take on the likes of British firm Autonomy, which also operates in the enterprise search market.
