Capital Radio managing director Pringle departs in senior shake-up

LONDON - Keith Pringle, Capital Radio managing director, and Nik Goodman, programme director, are to leave the company with immediate effect as part of a management reshuffle.

The exit of Pringle follows a radical shake-up in January whereby GCap cut the number of ads and relaunched Capital, which trails Heart FM in London. The strategy was designed to bring listeners back to the one-time undisputed market leader.

GCap says the decision to axe two of its most senior directors comes after a redevelopment consultation for Capital Radio, which the company says is necessary for its ambitions to recruit people with "specific skills and experience" for its long-term development.

Steve Orchard, GCap operations director, said: "Since the implementation of the changes to the station in January, much has been achieved through the commitment, hard work and creativity of the team at Capital Radio.

"The new advertising policy has been welcomed by advertisers, we have held pricing levels, and early listener feedback from our own research is extremely encouraging."

There has been no announcement on who will be the new programme director, although a decision is likely to be made within the next week.

Pringle was both managing director and programme director for two years until Goodman was appointed last June. Pringle is the latest in a line of former Capital Radio figures to exit GCap. Managing director David Mansfield went in September last year, followed shortly by commercial director Linda Smith, operations director Paul Davies and Xfm managing director Graham Bryce.

Capital Radio stressed that the station was approaching a critical time in its development and in its quest to find new listeners, emphasising that the new challenge required a different skill set than the one currently on offer.

Orchard added: " I would like to thank Keith Pringle and Nik Goodman for their significant contribution to the re-launch and management of the station in recent years.

"They are talented and experienced programmers and I wish them every success for the future."
