The Indy plans Vodafone podcasts

by Media Week, Media Week 16-May-06

The Independent is to make its first foray into the podcasting arena with a two-month travel podcasting service in association with Vodafone.

As part of the six-figure deal The Independent will promote Vodafone's
"Passport" roaming service, which allows customers to use their home
tariff abroad after a set-up fee of 75p.

Independent travel editor Simon Calder will be hosting the podcasts,

which will be downloadable from The Independent's and Vodafone's

websites beginning 20 May.

The podcasts will be part of a multimedia campaign across The
Independent's print and online products. Tim Yates, Vodafone UK's chief
marketing officer, said: "People will be able to access invaluable
information on four top European holiday destinations in a number of
ways. They can read about the cities in the paper, download podcasts or
go to Vodafone Live! on their handsets."

Ben Reilly, business manager on Vodafone's account at OMD, added:
"Vodafone is always looking at new ways to communicate the strength of
its roaming offering to its consumers, and this cross-media deal allows
it to provide excellent travel content across a variety of platforms."
