BT unveils Total Broadband digital service

LONDON - BT has unveiled its new broadband service, BT Total Broadband, which the company says will offer subscribers free internet voice and video calls and faster internet connections.

BT says the package, which is available from £9.95 a month, offers download speeds of up to 8MB, and that all of its services, including security software, would be brought together through its BT Home Hub.

The company is planning to offer its intelligent mobile services, BT Fusion, and its digital TV offering, BT Vision, by the autumn as part of the deal.

Ian Livingston, CEO of BT Retail, said: "Customers want their broadband to offer a range of exciting content and services as standard, without having to pay extra for these features.

"BT Total Broadband is the complete broadband service. Combined with the BT Home Hub, there is now a simple, powerful way to experience the full range of exciting broadband services at home or when out and about with wi-fi via BT Openzone."

The package, which BT claims can make subscribers an estimated saving of £370 in their first year, includes a 24-hour help desk, and comprehensive all-in-one security system to guard against identity theft, spam, pop-ups and hackers.

BT has described rival broadband packages as a "false economy", because of the hidden costs involved of additional features and services.

The BT Home Hub is available free of charge to all new customers who choose deal options two or three. Option one subscribers can buy it separately for £30 online or £50 via the BT call centre.

Livingston added: "Customers will enjoy free voice and video calls, and with helpdesks they can trust and a suite of security software included, they can have complete confidence when using the internet."
