LONDON - Graham Bryce, former managing director of GCap Media stations Xfm, Choice FM and Capital Gold, has been appointed as senior vice-president of the SBS Radio Group in Amsterdam.

Bryce, who was credited with the rise of the indie radio station Xfm, which now has stations in London, Manchester and Scotland, will have full responsibility for the group, focusing on developing SBS stations including Radio 1 Oslo in Norway and Radio City 107.3 in Sweden.

Patrick Tillieux, chief operating officer and acting chief executive officer of the SBS Broadcasting Group, said: "Graham is a highly successful and experienced radio operator with a proven track record of building radio stations across different music formats and markets.

"He will play a major role in expanding SBS's existing stations and in enhancing SBS Radio's leading position in the high-growth markets in the Nordic region and Central and Eastern Europe."

Bryce left GCap Media last October after working for the network, in its previous guise of Capital Radio, for more than 10 years. He was one of a number of executives to exit the company after the merger of Capital Radio with GWR Group to form GCap.

Chief executive David Mansfield and commercial director Linda Smith also left the network. Smith later resurfaced to take the position of chief executive at Starcom UK.

SBS Radio operates 11 radio networks in Sweden, Finland, Denmark, Norway, Romania and Greece, reaching more than 8m listeners a week.

The network also operates 16 television stations throughout Europe, including TV Norge.
