LONDON - Haymarket's Bill Murray has been given the Periodical Publishers Association chairman's award for his contribution to the magazine industry and the association.

PPA chairman Nicholas Coleridge praised Murray, who is managing director for group business information strategy at Haymarket publishing, for steering the industry through a time of incredible change and growth.

Murray, a former chair of PPA Interactive and founding chairman of the Association of Online Publishers, was instrumental in growing AOP's membership from ten online publishers in 2002 to its current 28 members.

Coleridge said: "He has skilfully balanced the competitive issues that occur naturally within the AOP's membership and has ensured that the interests of magazine publishers are promoted within AOP and the broader internet industry."

The award was presented last night at the PPA's annual Chairman's Reception at Stationers Hall, in front of the PPA's 400 members, representing over 80% of the magazine industry.

Haymarket is the publisher of Brand Republic as well as Campaign, Marketing and Media Week magazines.
