TPS & MPS: Rate of new registrations slowing

12.6m TPS

2.8m MPS

The Direct Marketing Association (DMA) has been examining the patterns
of growth on the Telephone Preference Service (TPS) and Mailing
Preference Service (MPS). It notes that although registrations on the

TPS are rising, the percentage of new registrations is decreasing. MPS

growth is also showing signs of a slowdown in year-on-year growth.

The DMA also plans to look at the numbers that have been registered for
five years or more. "Some people have moved house and have not taken
their number with them," says Mike Lardon, director of consumer
services, compliance and accreditation at the DMA. "We will contact
these people and ask whether they want this number to remain on the
TPS." The DMA has also received a file from BT containing numbers that
have ceased to exist, which have been removed from the file.

The corporate TPS grew to 774,951 subscribers, the Fax PS had 1.8
million names and the baby MPS 7,471 names.
