Lovelorn media types get their own dating website

LONDON - Help is at hand for terminally single media people hunting for a mate who will understand the pressures of working in the industry.

Mediadates has been set up by the journalists Harriet Cross and Ros Love. It is targeting advertising and marketing people, journalists, media planners, designers, PRs, photographers and the like, promising to bring them together for fun, friendship and romance.

The pair anticipate that many members will be freelance, hampered in their efforts to meet Ms or Mr Right because they work at home in isolation or on demanding short-term contracts that leave little time for socialising.

The site will also help those who are single again after some time and find that the dating scene has changed to a confusing degree.

It is free to browse and membership costs £16 a month. This allows members to chat, post on a forum, send messages and "winks" to other members and do more detailed searches. There will also be networking events so members can meet informally in a relaxed environment.

Mediadates is offering a month's free membership to people who sign up before November.

Cross, who has edited titles including Weight Watchers magazine and contributes to the Daily Express, said: "Dipping in and out of predominantly female workplaces, I am struck by the number of gorgeous single women searching for their Mr Right."
