LONDON - Iconic children's 1970s Saturday morning show Swap Shop is to burst onto UK screens again for a one-off Christmas special, starring original presenters Noel Edmonds and Keith Chegwin.

The two-hour BBC show, which featured children swapping items, will look back at 30 years of Saturday morning children's TV on the BBC.

Edmonds, who now hosts Channel 4's 'Deal or no Deal', and Chegwin, who features on GMTV and has appeared as himself on an episode of 'Extras', will be reunited with fellow original presenters Maggie Philbin, John Craven and Posh Paws, the purple dinosaur who was the show's mascot.

Guests will include several popular children's TV presenters such as Mike Read, who took over from 'Swap Shop' with 'Saturday Superstore', Andi Peters, Emma Forbes and Sarah Green.

'Multi-Coloured Swap Shop', which ran on BBC One from 1976-1982, featured cartoons, live guests and outside broadcasts, as well as the swapping of children's collections.

However, the idea was extended and applied to any kind of swapping such as a feature in which John Craven of 'Newsround' fame would each week present a "News Swap". This would include a topical story that would prompt a reaction from viewers, such as "Do newspaperboys get paid enough?"

Chegwin would present 'The Swaparama', which involved live swaps, while cook Delia Smith would teach viewers how to make items such as sausage rolls.

'It Started With Swap Shop' is due to be aired between Christmas and New Year on BBC Two.

Separately, 'Jim'll Fix It' is returning after 12 years, featuring presenter Jimmy Saville making young people's dreams come true.
