Guardian Unlimited to launch Intel-sponsored music site

LONDON - Guardian Unlimited is to launch an Intel-sponsored music section that promotes the technology company's latest processor, the Core 2 Duo.

The music website, which will be edited by Paul McInnes, currently features a video interview with jazz singer Amy Winehouse, an A to Z of classical music, and an interactive slideshow for Damon Albarn's animated band Gorillaz.

It also contains tips on how to make and edit user-created music videos, a weekly "ask the experts" section on digital entertainment, and the latest music video releases.

Intel's involvement, through a deal brokered by Universal McCann Interactive, includes prominent "in assocation with Intel" branding next to the site logo, a solus ad presence on the site and a special competition offering the prize of a laptop for the best best user-created music video.

Emily Bell, Guardian News & Media's director of digital content, said: "The scale of our sponsorship with Intel is a media first for us.

"Obviously we will retain editorial independence, but we will work with Intel to integrate their brand into the site on a number of different levels and at the same time offer added value to our users."

Guardian Unlimited said its music homepage would be promoted online and in the print edition of The Guardian, to coincide with the launch of a new arts and entertainment blog, and increased coverage of theatre, literature and films.

Sarah Doughty, digital account director at Universal McCann Interactive, said: "The [Intel] sponsorship offers an engaging environment to communicate the benefits of the product and bring it to life through innovative and interactive content."

Guardian News & Media, which comprises The Guardian, The Observer and Guardian Unlimited, changed its name from Guardian Newspapers Limited last week, acknowledging the expansion of the group's online business.

Guardian Media Group Regional Newspapers has also been renamed GMG Regional Media.
