Sky connects 1 in 10 of broadband sign-ups

Media Week 03-Nov-06, 14:48

Sky has connected 74,000 of the million-plus households that have signed up for its broadband package, according to its latest financial results.

The company said it was receiving more than 20,000 orders per week for the service.
Chief executive James Murdoch said he was pleased with the progress towards becoming a so-called triple-play operator.
"While it is still early, we are pleased with the progress since the launch of Sky Broadband and in just 15 weeks we've seen a great response from Sky customers," he added.

Meanwhile, Sky grew its subscriber base by 82,000 between July and September, with the penetration of the satellite giant's Sky+ personal video reaching 20%.
Murdoch said: "This has been an important period for the company. We are building on our leadership in pay television and becoming an increasingly well-positioned challenger in the £20 billion combined industry for pay television, broadband and telephone services.
Rival broadband supplier Carphone Warehouse this week said it has so far connected around 425,000 customers out of the 625,000 who have signed up for its broadband offering, despite suffering huge customer service problems.
