Hertz picks RKCR/Y&R for £10.5m European work

by Ed Kemp, Marketing 08-Nov-06

Hertz has handed the business for a £10.5m pan-European advertising campaign to RKCR/Y&R.

The activity, which is intended to raise awareness of the car rental
brand, will initially run in the UK, Germany and France before rolling
out to other European markets.

RKCR/Y&R picked up the business following a competitive pitch against

two other undisclosed agencies.

The UK account is handled by DDB London, which won the business in
November last year. A DDB London spokesman said that the agency's
relationship with Hertz was not affected by the review.

Last December, Hertz was acquired for $5.6bn cash and $10bn assumed debt by a consortium of US private equity firms including
Clayton, Dubilier & Rice, Carlyle Group and Merrill Lynch Global Private
Equity; it is in the process of issuing an initial public offering

In July, Hertz moved its pan-European digital account out of Modem Media
into Fullsix UK, following a competitive pitch. The agency was hired by
the car-rental firm to create a more co-ordinated digital strategy
across Europe as well as develop Hertz's website and email
promotions.

Neither Hertz nor RKCR/Y&R were willing to comment on the appointment.
