Guardian loss costs West Ferry £6m
West Ferry's loss of its contract for The Guardian cost it almost £6m in turnover last year, accounts at Companies House have shown.
In figures submitted this month, the Docklands newspaper printer posted a turnover of £71.7m for 2005, down from £77.3m the previous year. Pre-tax profit fell £9.6m in 2004 to £4.6m over the same period.

The numbers show, for the first time, the full extent of The Guardian's decision to pull its printing contract for southern editions out of the plant, in September 2005, and set up its own Berliner-sized presses at Newsfax in Bow, east London.
The directors' report said: "During the year, a major printing contract was transferred from the company, reducing the revenue and profits for the financial year."
It also suggested a financial settlement had been reached over the ending of the contract, which had been due to run until 2009.
