LONDON - The Sun is to sponsor Stick Cricket's website for the duration of The Ashes cricket test, which began in Brisbane this morning, as part of the newspaper's coverage of the showdown between Australia and England.

Stick Cricket invites users to play a virtual game of cricket online, and win prizes for notching up the highest score either as a batsman or bowler.

The deal is part of The Sun Online's Ashes coverage, which will give ball-by-ball news on the latest score in Australia, a daily video report from former England cricketer Allan Lamb called Howzat, and a desktop scorecard for cricket fans that are at work.

The Sun also said its online Ashes coverage would feature profiles of the English and Australian players, a cricket babes gallery, and betting tips.

The Ashes tournament got under way in Brisbane this morning, with England aiming to repeat its historic win over Australia last summer, ending the country's 18-year wait. It could prove a tough target -- Australia were first out to bat and finished the day at 346-3, with Aussie captain Ricky Ponting hitting 137 not out.
