Publicis-owned agency Zed Media has been appointed to handle the £1.5m media planning and buying account for new online insurance quotation comparison site, gocompare.com.

The agency's remit is to drive up brand awareness following the site's soft launch earlier this month and manage its spend on and off-line, including press, TV and posters.
Marketing communications agency M Consulting has been appointed to handle the site's PR strategy and creative advertising.

Gocompare.com offers quotations for car, home, bike and van insurance and aims to rival existing internet quotation site, confused.com. Part of the Admiral Group, confused.com launched its car insurance comparison service to the public in January 2003.

Greg Grimmer, Zed Media managing director, said: "Having worked with the site's head of marketing, Bart Day, in his days at Zurich and Lloyds, we are really pleased he has appointed Zed again to take advantage of our multi-media approach to acquisition marketing."
Last month, Zed Media brokered a deal between Channel4.com and BMW to promote its BMW 3-Series Touring car. In September, Zed Media picked up the £9m online planning and buying account for financial services firm Capital One.
