Elle hires Conde Nast's Whitmarsh for ad director role
LONDON - Hachette Filipacchi UK's women's fashion title Elle has appointed Charlie Whitmarsh, former ad director at Conde Nast's Easy Living, to its newly created position of advertising director.
Whitmarsh, who has worked at Easy Living since its launch in 2005, is also a former ad manager at Hello!, and will now report directly to Jacqui Greaves, Elle's commercial director.
Tony Long, Hachette's UK director of sales, said: "Charlie's appointment will play a key role in capitalising on Elle's influence as the world's biggest-selling fashion magazine with clients and agencies.

"Charlie and Jacqui Greaves will make a formidable team as we develop Elle's commercial proposition with Elle Collections and online."
Hachette appointed Nick Bradley this week to the post of digital sales director, where he will be responsible for the development of online ad sales across Elle's sister titles, which include Red, Real Homes and Inside Soap.
Last week, the publisher also recruited Dave Killeen as director of digital and Kat Vitou as head of business development across Hachette Filipacchi's online portfolio.
In September, Elle marked its 21st birthday with a special collectors' edition guest-edited by Donatella Versace, featuring an interview with Drew Barrymore by Cameron Diaz.
Elle said Whitmarsh's appointment comes at a significant time in the magazine's development, having steadied its circulation in the January to June ABC figures at 208,802, compared with: IPC's Marie Claire, which was down 10.9% to 331,127 copies; The National Magazine Company's Cosmopolitan, which fell 4.2% to 442,384 copies; and Essential Publishing's Real, which plummeted 21.4% to 143,849 copies.
