Haymarket buys car community site

by Robin Parker, Media Week 11-Jan-07, 15:58

Haymarket Publishing has acquired its first standalone community website with the purchase of car enthusiasts site www.pistonheads.com.

The site, which attracts 900,000 unique users and more than 28 million page impressions, hosts forums, news and features for car models from the likes of Porsche, Lotus, Aston Martin and TVR.
Website ranking company Hitwise crowned the site the most popular recreation automotive site in the UK between July and September last year.
Dave Edmonston, who set up the site eight years ago, will continue to oversee the running of the site from Haymarket’s offices.

Haymarket, which also owns Media Week, said pistonheads.com would sit alongside the online brand extension of What Car? and Autocar magazines, aiming to attract advertisers wanting to target a car enthusiast audience.
