MTV to appoint three as Gambino departs as head of digital

LONDON - Angel Gambino, the head of digital for MTV in the UK, has left the network after 16 months with her role to be replaced by three new positions, including strategy and digital directors.

The broadcaster recruited Gambino as vice-president of commercial strategy and digital media at MTV Networks UK in September last year.

In her place, the broadcaster is expected to appoint a new director of digital, a director of strategy and a director of commercial in the online arena, with announcements to be made shortly.

Gambino was tasked with driving new business growth, and creating and implementing business strategy across the 11-channel portfolio of MTV, VH1, VH2, TMF and Paramount Comedy brands.

Her responsibilities included expanding MTV Networks UK's position in mobile media, interactive television, gaming, and video-on-demand.

She joined MTV from the BBC, where she was controller of business development and emerging platforms, responsible for extending the BBC's four TV and nine radio channels to mobile and broadband.

Gambino was heavily involved in the launch of MTV Flux, MTV's interactive and user-generated multi-platform entertainment service.

The service, which was launched out in August, allows people to upload content as well as take part in online communites.

A spokeswoman for MTV Networks confirmed that Gambino had left the broadcaster.
