Capital renews Johnny Vaughan deal
GCap Media is standing by Capital breakfast show host, Johnny Vaughan, and has renewed his contract for a further three years.
Vaughan, who took over the show from Chris Tarrant in April 2004, has seen listener numbers fall from 1.1 million in Q4 2004 to 782,000 in Q3 2006, and was widely tipped to be axed from the company’s flagship station when his contract came up for renewal.

But in an interview with Media Week in December, GCap’s group operations director, Steve Orchard, backed Vaughan, claiming the DJ was “working harder than anyone at GCap” to improve his performance.
“This year we are determined to bring those listeners who have gone to other stations back home,” he said this week.
“No-one can deliver the warmth and humour that Londoners want from their breakfast show as well as Johnny can, and we are confident that the show will thrive in 2007 with Johnny at the helm and under the guidance of Capital’s new programme director Scott Muller.”
