LONDON - Former BBC Radio 1 DJ Mark Goodier has been signed as the new mid-morning presenter on Guardian Media Group's London station Smooth Radio.

He will join the newly rebranded Smooth Radio, which changed its name from Smooth FM, when it launches on March 26, hosting a three hour weekday show from 10am to 1pm.

Goodier said: "I've had lots of offers to return to a daily show over the years but this was much more tempting than the rest. The combination of fantastic music and the opportunity to deliver an entertaining show was too good to pass up. I'm very excited to be broadcasting to London every day."

Gavin McCoy, programme controller for London's Smooth Radio, said: "Mark is a fantastic broadcaster and we are thrilled that we've been able to tempt him to return to hosting a daily programme. He will provide a relaxed and entertaining listen for Londoners."

During his career, Goodier has presented the breakfast and drivetime shows on Radio 1.

His association with the station is best know for the decade he spent hosting the 'Official UK Top 40' until 2002. He has also hosted the' Classical Chart' for Classic FM and 'Smash Hits!' For Emap as well as the 'Real Top 40' on Smooth's sister network Real Radio.

Most recently, Goodier has become a regular voice on Radio 2 and runs the radio production and talent company Wise Buddah.

He joins a line-up that includes Graham Dene at breakfast and Martin Collins at drivetime.

Kevin Greening, who currently hosts the mid-morning show, will move to weekday afternoons.
