Cinema admissions increase by 6%

UK cinema admissions have risen by 6% to 39 million in the first quarter of 2007, according to figures published by the Cinema Advertising Association.

The top three categories for advertising spend in UK cinemas during the
first quarter of this year were motors (£5.5m), followed by
computers (£4.3m) and drink (£3.8m). Orange was the
quarter's highest-spending brand, followed by Apple Computers and the

COI, according to statistics published by Nielsen Media Research.

Spoof action movie Hot Fuzz was the biggest hit at the cinema, grossing
£20.4m at the box office since its release in January.

Ben Stiller's Night at the Museum was also well received by UK
audiences, earning £16.8m in admissions.

Other hits include the screen adaptation of Charlotte's Web (£10.7m) and 300 (£8.4m), Frank Miller's graphic novel. 300 was also
the top performing film of March, which saw admissions up 12.7% compared
to March 2006.
