information onto handheld computers.
The agreement means content from News Unlimited, including UK and
international news, politics, arts and comment, can be downloaded from
either the AvantGo web site or the News Unlimited web site. There are
also plans to make content from Guardian Unlimited’s film web site,
Films Unlimited, available in the same way.
The AvantGo deal is one of three distribution partnerships Guardian
Unlimited has entered into recently.
As well as signing an agreement with Cable & Wireless for a television
version of its web sites, which is due to launch on C&W’s digital
television platform in March, it is also one of 13 partners providing
content for BT Cellnet’s Wireless Application Protocol internet mobile
phones.
Simon Waldman, head of Guardian Unlimited, said: ’As publishers of
content, The Guardian is now looking far beyond the newspaper and
personal computer as distribution channels.’
