Retailer revolt on freesheet litter
West End retailers have joined Westminster City Council in demanding a crackdown on free newspapers to prevent litter tarnishing the area's image.
Jace Tyrrell, head of marketing and communications at the New West End Company, which represents shops in London's Bond Street and Oxford Circus, said the environmental impact is a problem in these areas, which have a high footfall.

Westminster Council is voting on powers to curtail the freesheets. One option would see the publishers of London Lite and thelondonpaper take responsibility for clearing up and recycling. The other is to limit the distribution of the papers in areas such as Oxford Circus and Leicester Square.
