Sky signs deal with online video aggregator

LONDON - Sky News is the latest content owner to sign up to Jalipo - an online video aggregator that allows rights owners to distribute and monetise TV channels, live events and recorded video content online.

The deal will give Sky News access to global viewers. Broadcasts are available in three different quality streams through Jalipo's website. The service, which is available to both consumers and businesses, allows users to search by subject matter. Selected viewing material is charged for on a minute-by-minute basis.

Head of Sky News John Ryley said the partnership demonstrated the channel's ambition to be on as many platforms as possible. "This will allow us to understand how we can deliver that across Europe, alongside our strong television audience," he said.

Other content owners to appear on Jalipo's site include Al Jazeera, BBC World and Portman Film & TV.

Who's going to pay to watch this? Jalipo's business model is fatally flawed by the fact that much of its content is available free elsewhere, and if it isn't, users would expect it to be and won't pay for it. Jalipo will be gone or have fundamentally changed it's business model to an ad supported one within 12 months or I'll eat my hat!
