LONDON - BBC Worldwide, the commercial arm of the BBC, has struck a deal that will give mobile operator O2’s 17.8 million customers access to themed BBC video clips, wallpapers and ringtones.

Content from shows including The Office, Doctor Who and Little Britain will be available through the deal, which follows similar deals with other operators.
BBC Worldwide has ramped up its mobile activity since June, when it appointed Peter Mercier as new head of mobile for its digital media division.
Mercier has vowed to increase the corporation’s use of mobile for commercial gain. The value of the deal was not disclosed and O2 is expected to charge £1.50 per download for the majority of the content.
