LONDON – The Direct Marketing Association (DMA) has appointed Tim Smit, co-founder and chief executive of the Eden Project, as the chair of this year’s DMA Awards.

The move underlines the Association’s current focus on green issues, which has seen it add a ‘green initiatives’ category to this year’s awards for the first time.

Smit, who founded the Project in Cornwall which opened in 2001, will oversee the judging process for all awards categories and lead the final Grand Prix category judging.

“It is fantastic to see that the DMA has added a new category this year that recognises green thinking,” said Smit. “It’s a great way to demonstrate the business value in taking a sustainable approach.”

Heather Westgate, chair of the DMA Awards Committee, said, “Tim is the ideal partner for the awards. To be working with one of the UK’s leading business thinkers who is living proof of the business sense in sustainability is fantastic.”
