Facebook enters top ten web sites in UK
In July, Facebook became a top ten web site for the first time in the UK, behind Bebo at six and MySpace in eighth.
Facebook's decision to expand registration to allow anyone to use the
site has had a clear impact on its popularity, experiencing the most
rapid growth of the three leading networks with visits up 18-fold year

site than on other leading social networks (see box).
As Facebook's popularity has grown, so too has its brand recognition.
Searches for a brand name offer a strong indicator of awareness, and
"facebook" was the fourth highest-volume search term in the UK in the
four weeks to 4 August.
The demographic profile of Facebook visitors reveals that it continues
to draw strength from its roots in universities with 42 per cent of UK
visits coming from those aged 18-24 (compared with just 28 per cent for
Bebo). Facebook also attracts a wealthier visitor than MySpace and Bebo,
with the MOSAIC groups Symbols of Success, Suburban Comfort and Urban
Intelligence all over-indexed on Facebook relative to the online
population.
