Video comes to eBay

LONDON - eBay is to offer sellers the opportunity to use video in their listings for the first time.

The service will be provided by vzaar, a new company set up by two former eBay employees. Vzaar, which launched this week, was set up by Adrian Sevitz and Dan Wilson. It allows users to film items for sale with a digital camera, mobile phone or video camera and then insert it to a listing at Vzaar.com.

Sevitz, who was eBay's site experience manager until earlier this year and is now Vzaar's chief executive, said the company was focused on making users' experience of eBay better.

"Video is going to make a big difference to eBay sellers," he said. "The big video sharing sites are trying to be everything to everyone. We're not."

Wilson, on of eBay's first UK employees, said the step was ‘logical'. "Videos, being far more personal and engaging, are the next logical step for eBay sellers keen to sell more. Selling on eBay is competitive and it's vital to stand out from the crowd."

Users can sign in at Vzaar.com using their eBay sign in details. The service is available on eBay's UK, Ireland, Italy and Spain sites.
