Robin Hood to return to BBC One

LONDON - BBC One is bringing back its 'Robin Hood' television drama this autumn for a second season, with Keith Allen returning as the Sheriff of Nottingham.

The Saturday night drama series, which stars Jonas Armstrong as Robin Hood and Lucy Griffiths as his love interest Marian, follows Robin and his gang of outlaws in Sherwood Forest as they attempt to outwit the evil sheriff.

Over the new 13-episode series, Robin's character evolves as he becomes more of a leader and his relationship with Marian grows.

Robin is in even greater danger than before as he tries to foil the sheriff's scheme to hire a mercenary troop of Black Knights to assassinate King Richard and put Prince John on the throne.

Foz Allan, co-executive producer with Dominic Minghella and Sarah Brandist, said: "We are delighted to be returning and audiences seem to have really taken to the series and its characters.

"The biggest development [with the new series] is that the stakes have been upped considerably. The sheriff is involved in what in modern parlance would be called 'regime change'. So when Robin clashes with the sheriff, it's as much about the very soul of England as taking from the rich and giving to the poor."

The 'Robin Hood' series first launched in October last year and gained an average rating of 7m viewers for the first seven episodes.

That's a shame. It was pretty poor first time round. And Robin looks like Tracey Thorn.

This is a classic case of it being pitched wrongly from the satrt - It was put out there as an "edgy, dark, complex re-telling" of Robin Hood when actually it's light entertainment. If they'd stuck with that tag expectations would have been more approriate.

It was poor. That's for sure.

I really tried to watch it - attractive men running around, sounded like my thing - but it was soooo boring. And none of the men were that attractive! I don't know anyone else who watched it - I'm surprised it got the viewing figures to warrant a second series.

Finally 'Family TV hour' has actually returned. So,everyone known the overall story, the BBC Robin Hood was clean, diverse and included enough diversity to keep viewers of all ages watching. I have a program to watch with the entire family without fear someone is going to run around half clothed, sex on the floor, and cursing!! I salute BBC and BBC America for bringing back family entertainment with Robin Hood not once but twice. Keep up the good work.
