LONDON - The Sun Online is planning to put columnist and former editor Kelvin MacKenzie online, and will be unveiling some tweaks to the site to improve usability.

MacKenzie is expected to take on an interactive role with users of the site in the next few weeks with Kelvin MacKenzie online.

He will be posting daily blogs, which readers can comment on and when possible, he will respond back.

Pete Picton, editor of thesun.co.uk, said readers were always wanting to be able to talk to the columnists and this will give them the chance to do just that.

Around the same time, the site will be switching to a new content management system called escenic, which will translate into a few minor changes for users and improved usability.

The Sun website relaunched in August 2006 with a new design and improved navigation, which has helped it climb to 10.6m unique users, according to the latest ABC electronic figures.

The Sun picked up two awards at the AOP conference last night and Picton was one of the keynote speakers at the AOP conference earlier in the day. For full coverage of yesterday's conference read our blog.
