LONDON - Pop star Lily Allen is to host her own chat show on BBC Three where viewers will get a chance to ask celebrity guests questions, become her 'virtual friends' and shape the format of the programme.

With the working title of 'Lily Allen and Friends', the concept has a strong interactive element, with viewers being given the chance to become "virtual friends" with the singer and take part in the show.

Options for viewers who become friends with Allen, either online or by mobile, are set to include the chance to appear in the studio audience and even present parts of the show.

Danny Cohen, BBC Three controller, said a key reason for commissioning the show was the strong link between Allen and interactivity, because of the key role online promotion played in launching her career.

He said: "'Lily Allen and Friends' will have its own unique identity as the audience will be intrinsic to the show's content via social networking. Lily launched herself on the web and is the perfect host for this exciting new show."

Elaine Bedell, controller of BBC Entertainment commissioning, said that she hopes the show will position Allen, as "one of the BBC's key entertainment faces".

She said: "Lily is opinionated, funny and charming in equal measure. She's a very natural performer and will be a television star."

'Lily Allen and Friends' is produced by Princess Productions, which is owned by Elisabeth Murdoch's Shine company, and is set to air in the spring.

As part of the interactivity, viewers who sign up as one of Allen's online friends also get the change to have highlights of the show sent to their phone as well as access to exclusive behind the scenes footage.

Also planned for the show will be live music from established and unsigned acts, whose progress after appearing on the show will be tracked.

Allen said: "I'm so excited that BBC Three are giving me this chance. It's something I intend to have lots of fun with and I have some great ideas for the show."

This is just the latest high-profile deal for Allen, who has reportedly signed a six-figure deal to appear in a campaign next year for Agent Provocateur.
