Top Up TV to offer more VoD as Anytime service expands

by Tristan O'Carroll, Media Week 20-Nov-07

Top Up TV, the pay-TV service on Freeview, is to offer more video-on-demand channels and is in talks with advertisers to expand its ad-funded channel presence.

Following strong take-up for Top Up TV Anytime since its launch last
October, the firm plans to launch four VoD channels before the end of
the year, with several more to be launched during the first quarter of

2008.

The Anytime service provides more than 150 programmes to watch at any
time, from digital channels such as Disney Channel and Living for only
£9.99 a month. The firm revealed that 57% of its customers
regularly use the service to time-shift more than 50% of the programmes
they watch. Sales of Top Up TV Anytime have been boosted by growing
take-up for Top Up TV+, the company's PVR product that now commands a
40% share of the market for Freeview PVRs.

Matt Seaman, Top Up TV chief operating officer, said: "The Anytime [VoD]
service is well served in the kids, news and factual genres. We want to
expand across the board with movies, sport and lifestyle."

Meanwhile, the firm that recently secured fresh capital from private
equity outfit Balderton Capital is looking to tap into advertisers'
growing demand for TV channels as a means of showcasing their
brands.

In July, it inked deals with Camelot and Audi to provide content for a
new ad-funded channel, Showcase, and Seaman revealed that talks are
underway with new partners.

He said: "There are many firms that want to be on Freeview but cannot
afford to buy channel slots, so this could be an outlet for them."
