Microsoft invests in history site launch
A start-up company backed by Microsoft has launched a site that allows users to browse through moments in time and track personal timelines.
Miomi.com tracks history using content from Encarta and Wikipedia, but
also allows people to democratise this information by uploading their
own personal take on events - through words, pictures or film, to create

Users can create their own timelines to record all of their memories and
lives - from birth to the later years. People can upload their
individual journey to create a unique timeline.
"Miomi.com enables users to view their lives in context with the rest of
the world - rather than as separate silos of information," said
co-founder Charly Toni. "It takes private moments and puts them into
context."
Three years in the making, the site is in beta stage and is set to
launch fully by the end of the year. Microsoft claims Miomi "could be
the next YouTube".
Toni added that the site was looking to capitalise on 'time-based'
sponsorship opportunities. "Microsoft could sponsor 1975, for example,
the year of its birth," he said.
Contrary to reports, Microsoft denies investing £100 million in
the site.
