The Week: Advertising news - Second ad curb bill tabled

Campaign 07-Dec-07

A second private members' bill has been tabled in the House of Commons calling for a pre-9pm watershed on junk-food advertising.

The Promotion of Food to Children Bill, which was introduced by the
Labour MP Nigel Griffiths, is also demanding "significant restrictions"
on non-broadcast advertising. "There is no single solution to childhood

obesity, but tougher restrictions on the way unhealthy foods are

marketed to children are essential," Griffiths said. Back in February,
the Labour backbencher Baroness Thornton introduced a private members'
bill that supported a pre-watershed ban. It failed to make any progress
past its second reading.
