Mirror Group sales team to promote newspaper brands

by Fiona Ramsay, Media Week 08-Jan-08

Mirror Group has poached Yvon Nolle from rival News Group to head up a new client-facing ad sales unit to encourage more advertisers to use its newspaper brands.

Nolle, the former head of retail advertising at News Group, will head
sales for the new division, which is Mirror Group's third ad sales
unit.

He will recruit a team of three people to build direct relationships

with new and existing advertisers.

Mirror Group's existing innovations and advocacy strategic sales teams,
headed by Keith Yonish and Gavin Gordon, which develop creative
sponsorship deals and agency relationships, will remain in place.

Mark Field, head of business development, said: "What we have been
looking at over the past 18 months is how to develop our advertising
business and where we need to spend more time and improve our skills
base, and that has led to the development of a specialist client sales
team."

Field said the creation of the team would help Mirror Group Advertising
to spend more time with clients, but promised the move was not aimed at
cutting agencies out of the loop.

He said: "There is pressure being put on the agencies all the time, but
we want to do this with their blessing and make client sales a part of
our relationship with them."

Field also revealed that the Daily Mirror is about to launch a
significant cross-media campaign for food-labelling organisation GDA,
planned by agency OMD.
