LONDON - Social networking site MySpace has promoted Jeff Berman to the newly created role of executive vice-president of marketing and content.

Berman will be responsible for spearheading the development and implementation of marketing initiatives and campaigns for MySpace.

He will also oversee the growth and expansion of MySpace franchises including music, film, comedy, the Impact Channel, MySpaceTV, and the newly launched MySpace Celebrity.

Berman will report to Chris DeWolfe, chief executive and co-founder of MySpace.

DeWolfe said: "Jeff has played a large role in bringing innovative content and programming to MySpace and he will be a powerful force in shaping our marketing strategy going forward.

"He brings unparalleled leadership experience and knowledge of the digital media space as well as the skills required to lead marketing for the world's largest social networking site."

Berman joined the social networking site in 2006 as senior vice-president of public affairs, where he led the creation of social and political section The Impact Channel. This houses the official MySpace pages for all of the major party Presidential candidates and a variety of non-profit organisations

He was promoted to general manager of MySpaceTV in 2007, where he oversaw the launch of the global video platform.

Before joining MySpace, Berman ran his own strategic, political, and crisis communications consulting firm, working with a range of non-profit, political, and private interests. He also served as chief counsel to US senator Chuck Schumer and staff director of the subcommittee on Administrative Oversight and the Courts.

Berman said: "As the creation and consumption of culture are transformed, MySpace is the single most exciting place in the world to be.

"MySpace isn't just the internet's largest and most vibrant global community, it's an exhilarating place to work and I'm thrilled to be here."

Earlier today, MySpace announced a deal with BBC Worldwide to showcase clips of BBC programming.
