LONDON - BBC Worldwide, the commercial arm of the BBC, has followed up the launch of a series of online projects by joining trade body the Association of Online Publishers (AOP).

BBC Worldwide managing director Marcus Arthur will join the AOP board, following a series of recent moves online by the publisher.

Arthur said he wants to help create a strong and unified voice in the online content industry, and improve standards and technologies.

Last year, BBC Worldwide acquired a 75% stake in travel publishing group Lonely Planet, including the websites Lonelyplanet.com and Lonelyplanet.tv. Meanwhile, BBC Worldwide's magazines have increased their presence online.
