LONDON - BBC Worldwide has launched a 'Top Gear' widget that users can download onto social networking sites, including Facebook and MySpace, to give them the latest news updates from the car show's website.

Users can either install the widget or application onto their desktop or onto their favourite service such as Facebook, iGoogle and Windows Live, to keep them up-to-date with all 'Top Gear' news from the site.

BBC Worldwide has also launched widgets for RadioTimes.com and BBCGoodFood.com to give users instant access to the sites' latest content.

Marcus Arthur, managing director of BBC Worldwide's digital delivery team, which developed the widgets, said: "Widgets are a great way of keeping track of your favourite websites on your desktop or social networking site.

"They're easy to install and keep you up-to-date with the information you want, where and when you want it.

"Widgets provide a powerful tool for driving traffic and site loyalty among users -- by getting your brand and content direct onto a user's desktop, start page or social networking site you can guarantee regular and prolonged exposure to continuously updated content."

I believe that widgets provide the purest glimpse into the new, improved networked future.
