Clew wins GSK's cancer vaccine

Clew Communications has bagged a combined account for GlaxoSmithKline's cervical cancer vaccine Cervarix.

The agency has worked on the consumer media account for Cervarix since 2005. Virgo Health PR handled the medical trade press account, but GSK decided to combine the briefs under one agency. Both agencies pitched for the work.

Clew MD Mary Hicks said: 'We will help GSK spread the message that all women need protection from HPV and that cervical screening and vaccination must be used together to increase cover for British women against cervical cancer.'

GSK hired Clew and Virgo as its first agencies pre-launch in 2005 (PRWeek, 5 August 2005).

The Department of Health is considering using the Cervarix vaccine as part of its Human Papilloma Virus immunisation, which will help to prevent cervical cancer.
