LONDON - Tom Moloney, the former chief executive of Emap, has taken up a new role as chief executive of healthcare information provider Dr Foster Intelligence.

Tom Moloney, the former chief executive of Emap, has taken up a new role as chief executive of healthcare information provider Dr Foster Intelligence (DFI).

Moloney, who resigned from Emap in May last year, will take overall responsibility for the joint venture.

Dr Foster Intelligence is a partnership between the NHS Information Centre for health and social care and Dr Foster Holdings LLP, with the common goal of improving the quality and efficiency of health and social care.

Moloney spent 25 years at Emap, the last four as chief executive, when he oversaw a period of sustained migration of resources onto digital platforms. He stepped down by "mutual agreement", Emap said at the time.

On Moloney's watch, Emap acquired Scottish Radio Holdings for £391m in summer 2005 and B2B fashion website Worth Global Style Network for £140m later that year. It also invested in new weekly consumer magazines, launching Zoo in 2005, Grazia in 2005 and First in 2006.

His last significant action was to enact a cost-cutting programme aimed at achieving £20m of annual savings, involving a cull of all publisher and ad director roles on the consumer magazines.
