LONDON - AOL has appointed Jonathan Lister as senior vice-president of operations for the European business.

Lister will be based in London and will report directly to Dana Dunne, CEO of AOL Europe.

He will be responsible for overseeing European operations, including programming; search; marketing; product management; paid services; web production; and strategy and standards.

Lister joins AOL Europe from AOL Canada where he has been since 2001. He joined the Time Warner-owned company as director for interactive marketing and rose to become general manager in 2006.

Prior to joining AOL, Lister worked in technology and publishing businesses.

He will be responsible for delivering the best consumer experience and ensuring online engagement increases month on month.

Dunne said: "I am delighted to confirm Jonathan's appointment and know that his experience and knowledge of AOL, our channels and products will prove invaluable as we continue to grow our business and unique visitors across Europe."

His appointment follows AOL's $850m acquisition of social networking site Bebo earlier this month.
