Report calls for web safety panel

Marketing 01-Apr-08

The government is drawing up plans for a nationwide campaign promoting child internet safety, in response to a review by child psychologist Tanya Byron.

The Byron review, which was published last week, called for the
establishment of a UK Council for Child Internet Safety, which would
report to the prime minister on issues such as inappropriate material on

the web and in video games.

Byron also recommended the funding of public information and awareness
activity, led by the government and supported by the Council.

Ed Balls, the secretary of state for children, schools and families,
said Byron's recommendations would be accepted in full.
