AOL has hired ad sales house Media-Link in a bid to boost ad revenues from regions around the UK.

The Time Warner-owned outfit has built a new ad platform that enables advertisers to reach regional audiences through geo-targeting. And Media-Link has been handed the job of getting regional advertisers to sign up to the initiative.

Media-Link is a sales house with offices in Manchester and Stirling and specialises in securing ad revenue from advertisers based outside London. Other digital media clients include Associated Northcliffe Digital, iVillage and Lycos.

Duncan George, director of sales at AOL UK, said the appointment of Media-Link showed AOL's commitment to the regional UK market.

In recent months, AOL has repositioned itself as an ad-supported global web company. The Time Warner subsidiary has made several moves to add to its online publishing operation, including the purchase of social network Bebo for around £410m last month.
