LONDON - The Family Planning Association has launched an integrated ad campaign to protect the current 24-week time-limit for abortions, which is under attack by anti-abortion groups.

The campaign, which is supported by celebrities Jo Brand, Janet Ellis and Polly Toynbee, is headed by the tagline: "Women need 24 weeks for a reason".

Over 10,000 postcards featuring the above tagline have been sent to MPs, asking them to vote to keep the current time limit.

FPA has also launched the campaign online, creating a separate webpage on its website, as well as a Facebook profile and an online petition, which already holds more than a thousand signatures.

The website provides scientific evidence about abortion and features three women who share their accounts of having an abortion.

Rebecca Findlay, press and campaigns manager at FPA, said: "As the issue is going to be won or lost on the floor of the House of Commons, FPA has had to mobilise support fast, to get people onto their MP and tell them which way to vote.

"That is why we created a paper and viral postcard campaign with the slogan 'Women need 24 weeks for a reason'. It is a simple message with a big impact."
