LONDON - Veteran BBC presenter Sir Terry Wogan has reportedly been given a four-week trial hosting a general knowledge quiz show on Channel 4, which may replace 'Richard and Judy' this summer.

The pilot quiz show is up against Richard Hammond, the 'Top Gear' presenter, who is also testing out a chat show that could take over the channel's 5pm time slot, according to a report in the Daily Mail.

Wogan could earn up to £1.2m from Channel 4 for 20 weeks of work a year if the show goes ahead, according to the Mail. The 5pm slot on the channel is shared between Richard and Judy, who are on air for 20 weeks a year, and 'The Paul O'Grady Show'.

A source close to the negotiations, quoted by the Daily Mail, said: "[Terry] is the frontrunner to take over the slot from Richard and Judy."

Richard Madeley and Judy Finnigan will part company with Channel 4 when their contract ends this summer. The husband and wife double act have been signed by UKTV to front a new primetime talk show on one of its pay-TV channels.
