HONG KONG - WPP's Asia-Pacific marketing agency Bates 141 has bought a majority stake in Evision, a Shanghai-based digital agency.

The deal, which is subject to regulatory approval, will strengthen WPP's foothold in China, where it generates over $600 million (£301.9m) in revenues, accounting for almost a quarter of the group's Asian revenues.

Evision, which specialises in interactive design, mobile marketing and customer relationship management, was founded in 2003. Its clients include Nike, Diageo, Mentos, Wyeth and Bao Steel.

For the year ended 31 December 2007, Evision generated revenues of 28.9m yuan (£2.1m) and had gross assets of 23.5m yuan.
