Virgin Media's aim is to create a news channel that delivers a fast breaking news service as well as offering users a broader and more engaging online experience.
Video will be a major feature on the ramped up channel, with video clips embedded in news pages, as well as longer video news packages.
Virgin Media and The Press Association will also create several microsites during the year around key news events, while Press Association stories will be archived on virginmedia.com for three months.
Enhanced news package ‘The Big Story' will offer multimedia coverage of daily top stories with related interactive graphics, video and photo galleries.
The re-launch of the main news channel with The Press Association builds on the regional news, showbusiness and event listings services already supplied by the agency.
According to comScore, Virgin Media was the 10th most visited site in January 2008.
